Slings

Press Grip Slings

Press Grip Slings are wire rope sling assemblies fabricated using a mechanical pressing process to form the eye. A metal sleeve is pressed (swaged) onto the wire rope to create a secure, permanent connection — producing a strong and economical sling assembly with consistent, reliable performance.

Mechanical splicing allows for faster fabrication compared to hand-splicing methods, making Press Grip slings an efficient choice for operations that need slings built and delivered on a tight schedule. The pressed fitting provides a clean, compact termination that works well in applications with limited rigging clearance.

Amick fabricates Press Grip slings at our Pittsburgh facility using domestic and import wire rope. All assemblies are built with a 5:1 design factor as required by OSHA. We can fabricate single-leg, multi-leg bridle, and choker configurations complete with hooks, thimbles, master links, and other hardware to match your application requirements.

Type

Mechanically spliced (swaged) wire rope sling assemblies. Available in single-leg, multi-leg bridle, and choker configurations with hardware.

Applications

General industrial lifting, construction, steel erection, manufacturing, plant maintenance, and heavy equipment handling. Suitable for rugged environments where abrasion resistance and durability are required. Wire rope slings handle high-temperature applications better than synthetic slings, though rated loads may be affected at extreme temperatures.

Exceptions

Wire rope slings should be removed from service if they show broken wires exceeding the criteria in ASME B30.9, kinking, crushing, birdcaging, corrosion, heat damage, or end fitting damage. Do not use wire rope slings that have been exposed to temperatures exceeding the manufacturer's recommendations without inspection by a qualified person. Wire rope slings are heavier and less flexible than synthetic alternatives — for loads requiring surface protection, consider pairing with wear pads.
