Eye & Eye Twist Web Slings

Eye & Eye Twist Web Slings are classified as Type 4 under ASME B30.9. They are constructed identically to Type 3 flat eye slings, with one key difference — the eyes are turned 90° so they sit perpendicular to the plane of the sling body. This twist allows the eyes to nest naturally into crane hooks, shackles, and other connection hardware, providing a more secure and stable seat than a flat eye.

The twisted eye design is particularly useful in choker hitch applications, where the perpendicular orientation allows the eye to wrap cleanly around the hook without folding or bunching. It also simplifies rigging in vertical and basket hitches where the hardware connection point favors a turned eye.

Amick manufactures twisted eye web slings in both nylon and polyester webbing, available in single-ply and two-ply constructions. Nylon provides greater stretch (approximately 8–10% at rated capacity) to absorb shock loads, while polyester offers lower elongation (approximately 3%) for tighter load control and superior resistance to acids and bleaching agents.

Every Amick twisted eye web sling is built at our Pittsburgh facility. Custom lengths, widths, and ply counts are available.

Type

Type 4 (ASME B30.9 / WSTDA). Twisted eyes on both ends, oriented 90° to the sling body. Available in nylon and polyester, 1-ply and 2-ply, in widths from 1" to 12" and custom lengths.

Applications

Vertical hitches, choker hitches, and basket hitches. Preferred in applications where a more secure seat in the crane hook or shackle is needed, or where a flat eye would fold or twist under load. Common in construction, manufacturing, steel erection, and general industrial lifting.

Exceptions

Not recommended for use in environments where temperatures exceed 194°F (90°C) or fall below -40°F (-40°C). Nylon is susceptible to damage from acids and bleaching agents. Polyester is susceptible to damage from strong alkalis. Nylon slings lose approximately 15% of their rated capacity when wet. Do not use on loads with sharp edges unless proper edge protection or wear pads are in place. Remove from service if the sling shows visible cuts, fraying, chemical damage, or UV degradation.
